Fees & Payment Information

Consultation Fees

We are a private billing practice. Medicare covers some of the cost of your consultations at the rooms however there will be an out-of-pocket component. Please ask our reception staff about our billing policy at the time of your appointment. Payment can be made by cash or credit card (Visa or MasterCard only) on the day of your visit.

Please note that Telehealth consultations will attract the same fee as face to face consultations.

Treatment Associated Expenses

Chemotherapy day-stay treatment

The administration costs of chemotherapy at the Mater Hospital are covered by your health fund. You will be admitted as a day-only patient and no gap payment is charged. It is important that you check with your fund that you are covered for a ‘Day only treatment’ in a private hospital (item number #13950).

Pathology tests

Blood tests undertaken as an outpatient are usually bulk-billed when you are undergoing chemotherapy treatment, leaving you no out-of-pocket costs. Dr Forster’s preferred laboratory is Douglass Hanly Moir - see here for collection centre locations .

If you need to be admitted to hospital during your treatment and require a blood test during the admission, most health funds have no-gap agreements with Douglass Hanly Moir. For more information on gap fees with Douglass Hanly Moir please see this leaflet.

Pharmaceuticals

Chemotherapy and most other medication related to your treatment will be covered by your health fund and/or the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS). Other required supportive care medications dispensed by your local pharmacy will also generally covered by the PBS.

From January 1 2022, you pay up to $42.50 for most PBS medicines, or $6.80 if you have a concession card.

Radiology (diagnostic imaging, x-rays and scans)

The cost of radiology depends on the provider and the type of radiology test you need. Ask the imaging provider at the time of your appointment if you will have any out-of-pocket expenses.
