Medical Oncologist & Supportive Care Physician

Dr Ben Forster is a dual-trained Medical Oncologist and Supportive and Palliative Care Physician. He is an accredited specialist at The Mater Hospital, North Sydney. He is also a Visiting Medical Officer in the Murrumbidgee Local Health District and accredited at Wagga Wagga Base Hospital and Calvary Riverina Hospital.

Dr Forster graduated from the University of Tasmania with an MBBS with First Class Honours. He undertook residency at Royal Hobart Hospital, and then Basic Physician Training at Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney. He became a Fellow of both the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) and the Australasian Chapter of Palliative Medicine (FAChPM) after completing training in both Medical Oncology and Palliative Medicine in Sydney.

Dr Forster’s clinical interests include breast cancer and supportive care. He is actively involved as an investigator in clinical trials in breast cancer at the Patricia Ritchie Centre for Cancer Care and Research. He has a strong interest in medical education and is a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney’s Northern Clinical School. He has been a regular contributor to the Breast Cancer Network of Australia’s Patient Education Forums throughout Australia.

Dr Forster is a member of American Society of Clinical Oncology, European Society of Medical Oncology, Medical Oncology Group of Australia, Breast Cancer Trials, Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer, and the Australasian Society for Breast Disease. He regularly attends national and international conferences to ensure that patients benefit from the most recent advances in cancer treatment.

Outside medicine, Dr Forster enjoys hiking, indoor cycling on Fulgaz, reading, and thinking about carving out some time to restore his 1972 Mini Clubman

Dr Forster is committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based cancer care, tailored to the goals and values of each individual. He takes time to ensure that patients understand the rationale for management recommendations and guides them through their treatment with a supportive and caring approach.
